About OIL SEALS
Oil seals, also known as grease seals or shaft seals, are mechanical devices used to prevent the leakage of fluids, typically oil or grease, from within a rotating or reciprocating mechanism. They are commonly employed in various industrial applications, automotive engines, machinery, and hydraulic systems. These seals are designed to fit snugly around a shaft, forming a barrier that prevents the escape of lubricants while also keeping out contaminants such as dirt, dust, and moisture. Oil seals typically consist of a flexible lip made from materials like rubber or elastomers, which makes contact with the shaft, creating a seal. This lip is usually housed in a metal or rubber case, which is pressed into a stationary housing or bore. Oil seals play a critical role in maintaining the efficiency, reliability, and longevity of mechanical systems by preserving lubrication and protecting vital components from wear and damage.
